Canoe Lake is the starting point for many of Algonquin's most popular routes. From here you can go north towards Tom Thomson, Burnt Island and beyond, west to Drummer Lake and the lakes of the Ahmek district or south through Smoke Lake. But you don't have to go to any of these places for a memorable Algonquin experience. Canoe Lake is a destination in itself. You can spend a day paddling around its shores, checking out the ruins of the town of Mowat, visiting the cairn to Tom Thomson or waiting for a moose to come say hello in Whiskey Jack Bay.
